Exhibition Tim Walker: Wonderful Things

Expo Tim Walker C-mine (c) Renaat Nijs

Exhibition Tim Walker: Wonderful Things

The largest show ever of the wide-ranging and sensational work by Tim Walker, photographer extraordinaire.

In September 2019, this impressive exhibition opened at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The show pays tribute to Walker’s extraordinary contribution to the world of photography over the past 25 years and was inspired by the collection of the V&A Museum itself.  C-mine is the first stop on the show’s world tour and will undoubtedly turn out to be one of this year’s must-see exhibitions in the Benelux.

Photographer Tim Walker is renowned around the world for his extravagant and romantic style. He was just 25 when Vogue magazine published his first fashion shoot. The exhibition Tim Walker: Wonderful Things was curated at the V&A by Susanna Brown, in a design by Shona Heath, a long-time collaborator of Walker’s. The exhibition features approximately 150 new works, including portraits of Grace Jones, Tilda Swinton and Margaret Atwood, plus more than 100 photos from Walker’s past projects, as well as clips from his Super 8 films.

The design of the exhibition at C-mine was executed by Jo Klaps, a local scenographer, and was inspired by Heath’s spectacular design. For example: part of the exhibition is presented in a sleek, white space. But most of the show is dark, imbued with rich textures, colours and sounds. In another space, visitors can imagine themselves in a majestic country house. All this ensures that Tim Walker: Wonderful Things is an exceptional visitor experience, both for those familiar with his work and those who are not.
